D woke into a changed world: months lost, a city occupied, and her abilities more dangerous than she ever imagined. Haunted by fragmented memories of experiments, betrayals, and a gurgling nightmare tell her she was more than a survivor — she was a subject. She becomes the resistance's unlikely trainer for a handful of young Potentials — children and survivors with uncanny gifts but nowhere safe to go. 

Now the inner-city resistance is a tenuous refuge for thousands, and the council’s plan to scan and recruit Potentials fractures the camp into fear and fury. D must use her banned skill to find the truth in anonymous archives, protect a clutch of frightened children and trainees, and choose whether to become the weapon the council hopes to control or the leader the refugees desperately need.

Torn between loyalty and the moral cost of survival, D’s choice will decide who is saved, who is sacrificed, and what kind of people the resistance becomes.
